I was born in Stirling, Scotland in 1942. My father studied at Glasgow School of Art and later worked at Alvis Motors in Coventry whilst my mother was a hairdresser.
I went to Saturday morning art classes, then junior art school before Coventry College of Art where I graduated in fine art and lithography before studying printed textiles at the Royal College of Art in London.
My first job was with Dennis Lennon Architects, designing furnishings and interiors for the QE2 liner as well as for restaurants and hotels.
I then freelanced and for many years taught at Hornsey College of Art (later Middlesex University), the Royal College of Art, and other art colleges throughout the country.
I recently stopped teaching to concentrate on designing, currently fabric collections for Corinne McManus at Atom Designs and for embroideries for Imogen Donkin at Sibona Decorative Textiles.

This website is just the start of documenting the variety of work I have enjoyed doing. Over time the pages will change and be added to. My paper stencils and my photographs have yet to be included, as have selections from my many diaries, especially the ones I kept in Ireland during the many summers I spent there. It has been fascinating sorting through my past work and I realise that many of the ideas and themes I've unearthed could be taken further. Watch this space!
